Weekly Wrap:
I dropped off my painting “The Thinkers” at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery for the Everything but the Kitchen Show opening this Friday, August 2nd and stopped by their neighbor Blue Rooster Art Supplies where I picked up a couple paint brushes, palette knife, and a small handheld paper palette—fun! I’m visiting family and friends in Seattle this week. Ah Summer, the perfect time for a visit! Unfortunately, that means I won’t be attending the La Luz de Jesus opening, my timing—wow it’s not great but at least I get a bit of beautiful Seattle Summer.
Preview the ETBTKS show and if you are in the L.A. area stop by the shows opening August 2nd from 7p-11p at 4633 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
The show will be up from Aug, 2nd to Aug 31st.
I also went digging for sketches to include in my Shadow/Light book and applied to the Hominens and Visionary Project calls.
And this week my eyes are tired and brain frazzled from WAY too much screen time! Can anyone else relate?! It has been a week full of joys, fun, and excitement, and also, a lot of emotions swirling and surfacing from the last decade. I am so excited that we have a candidate for U.S. President with a vision of freedom, prosperity, health, justice, and unity for all Americans! Where we build together for the benefit of all of us! And for a better world! Vice President Kamala Harris and all the groups of Americans that have united behind her candidacy have gifted me with hope for our nation. A hope that I’ve been missing for some time. A hope that I don’t remember feeling this strongly ever before! The internet was so fun that for a moment everyone was referring to X as Twitter again, lol. And now we are entering the scary part. If we thought misinformation was a problem in 2016 we are all about to be buried in video and audio of AI created lies. Elon Musk has already posted to his X account the Harris campaign video but with AI changing Harris’s words to say lies and misrepresent her using her own voice. This is going to get crazy and we all should be strategic about how we intake information and distill the truth and what we can do to counter the lies. And Yes, we can!
Open call:
Open Call/Submissions
Fee: none
Deadlines: Aug 20th and Nov. 20th
Poetic Tiger appears to be a relatively new (establish 2023) online art gallery with pop up gallery shows based in Boise, ID. They are interested in high quality, affordable, one of a kind artworks from artist all over the world. They have a few open calls right now that look fun! I’m not quite sure how one submits a particular artwork as it appears the way to apply is by providing links to one’s website and social media sites. At least it is a simple process! And as far as I can tell it is also no-fee.
