Weekly Wrap:
I got myself to the Everything but the Kitchen Sync show at La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Feliz and saw my painting hanging amongst a bevy of great works! The show is up through the month of August. Online browse the group show here or visit in person at 4633 Hollywood Blvd.

While at the show I picked up a Remedios Varo art catalog. It would have been very cool to see this show organized by The Art institute of Chicago and Museo de Arte Moderno Mexico City. Here is a wonderful, short video of Alivé Piliado, Art Institute of Chicago Research Associate, talking about Varo and the exhibition:

Saturday night I headed to Culver City for the art opening of Treasure Frey’s show “The Blessings of Cheerfulness” at Cadfab Creative. What delightful works of colorful structures and absences. It will be on view through the month of August.
I happily found myself at Book Soup in West Hollywood this week, yay for bookstores! I picked up a Hayao Miyazaki book “Turning Point.” I’m looking forward to reading insights from the master and also the poems (poems!) he wrote for many of his characters!
So this week my brain is tuned into Summer and adrift somewhere but I am taking chunks of time to anchor it and plod slowly towards making a proposal for the QE residency. Oh to be clear, concise, and use as few words as possible while trying to communicate what one does, wants to do, how it’ll be achieved, and the impact of it all… not a simple task for Summer brain! So it is bit by bit, edit by edit for these last handful of days before the deadline. Hopefully i will have pieced together a representational, intelligible application by the start of next week!
Have a great week everyone!

From the Tracey Emin foundation’s website:
The Tracey Emin Artist Residency (TEAR) is a free, studio-based art school programme that encourages the development of studio practice alongside a community of professional artists at TKE Studios.
Initially with set projects devised by Tracey Emin, Director, Elissa Cray and a host of guest artists, you will explore, develop and question artistic practices.
Visits from key figures such as gallery directors, curators, artists, accountants, framers, collectors, art historians will shape how you develop your studio work over the following year with ongoing mentorship from Tracey and opportunities to exhibit to far-reaching audiences.
The TEAR programme is similar in level to a Masters degree programme but with no formal qualification. For the next cohort will be selecting 8 applicants from people worldwide.
